Trying to Grow again after 10 years
Thanks to Benny and Samuel, I am able to grow some food for myself after 10 years. I want to give you guys great thanks from the bottom of my heart. Withouth the encouragement and the teachings from you, I wouldn’t have the bravery and the confidence to plant again and make sure my plants stay alive.
Although both my paternal and maternal families were farmers for generations, I was extremely bad at taking care of any plants. A lot of plants has died in my hand, and I started to give up on growing and gardening for 10 years. My grandparents have a small garden back in my hometown where they would grow all kinds of vegetables. Helping them harvesting was one of my joyful moments whenever I came back.
Just for the record, during the gardening session in class, I chose the following seeds: radish green, Mexican black beans (I forgot the exact name of the beans), black corns (also forgot the name, but the color is more closer to deep purple), sunflower seeds, cucumber seeds, and watermelon seeds. After I took them home, I placed an old iphone over them for incubating the sprouts. Then magic happens in 48 hours.
It took more time for the larger seeds to sprout, and up to now, there’s only one watermelon/cucumber seed that has sprouted. Meanwhile, I started harvesting some of them. As Samuel mentioned, I should schedule my harvest so that I don’t run out until my next round. As for the way of eating sprouts —— growing up in China, I already have the habits of eating bean sprouts and mastered all kinds of ways to cook sprouts. My first choice is always making them into Chinese salad, with a proportioned mix of my own sauce recipe —— two spoons of soy sauce, one spoon of dark rice vinegar, one spoon of sesame oil, and a combination of MSG, salt & cane sugar (the proportion should be adjusted according to the personal taste). I would also put them on top of my noodle soup, as they would be warmed up by the hot soup. My roommate and I are obsessed with the organic sprouts from our mini kitchen garden.
Thank you again Benny and Samuel. I have already started my second round of growing. I will updated them as I go.
