Community Map

Long Island City, NY

This is the community map that I drew in Procreate. I created this map from my perspective living in this area every day. This area is full of apartment buildings, and is very popular among the Asian community for its safety and convenient transportation system. The Asian restaurants, bubble tea stores provide me with a comfort zone that reminds me of my hometown.

When I created this map, I suddenly understood how community resilience has always affected me in an invisible way that I always took for granted. A lot of the stores that I marked on this map are run by Chinese, with each appearance symbolizing the recognition of the need of Asian residents there, and the will to provide the community with more attainable Asian food and products. Studying abroad alone is a long journey, especially when the culture and the language is very different. The local Asian community in NYC has provided a huge network of supply chain. When people are in need, supplies can be delivered or found with high convenience. This is part of the community resilience that I always took for granted.
